Poet in the Pulpit invites writers and readers to encounter Tyrone Williams in a way his published poetry and criticism alone never allow. Beyond the celebrated experimentalist—poet, critic, essayist, teacher—this volume opens the door to a quieter, more intimate practice: the sermons, meditations, and devotional reflections he shared with students, congregants, and close colleagues. As the collection itself notes, “The aspect of Tyrone’s life and writings that is much less well-known concerns his devotional writings,” and this casebook is the first to gather those materials with the critical framing they deserve.
