FAQ

How can I submit my poetry manuscript?

Poetry manuscripts are accepted exclusively through the annual Marsh Hawk Press Poetry Prizes. During the submission period, manuscripts must be submitted electronically via Submittable. We are unable to accept submissions by mail or email.

When is the next contest?

The next Marsh Hawk Press Poetry Prizes will open for submissions on December 1 and close on April 30. The contest is open to both emerging and established poets, with winners announced in early summer following the close of the submission period. For the most current information, including eligibility requirements and submission guidelines, please visit our Poetry Prizes page.

Do you accept unsolicited manuscripts?

Outside of our annual poetry prize, manuscripts are generally accepted by invitation only. During the contest reading period, poets may submit unpublished manuscripts through our online submission portal according to the published guidelines.

Can I submit individual poems?

No. The annual competition accepts full-length poetry manuscripts only.

Can previously published poems be included?

Yes. Individual poems may have appeared previously in journals or anthologies, but the manuscript as a whole must be unpublished.

Can I submit more than one manuscript?

Yes, provided each manuscript is submitted separately with its own entry fee.

How are manuscripts selected?

All contest manuscripts are read anonymously. Each manuscript is reviewed by multiple editors before finalists are selected. The contest judge then chooses the prize winners from the finalist pool.

How long does it take to hear back?

Contest winners are typically announced in early summer following the close of the submission period.

Where can I purchase your books?
